INTRODUCTION
The Southland Medical Foundation was founded in 1966 to provide finance for medical education and research for the benefit of the people of the Southland District.
Its main beneficiaries are nurses, doctors and other healthcare workers who are assisted by way of grants to attend conferences and courses to update and or enlarge knowledge of their speciality. The Foundation also receives applications from health institutions for funding to provide needed equipment. During the past 20 years the Foundation has paid out more than $1.6 million in grants.
As the recipient of income from a substantial legacy left by a Southland farming couple, William & Gwenda Sybil Dick, the Foundation also funds heart research projects at the University of Otago.
